Charles Carssow Norland is the father of my best friend from college. “Chuck”, as everyone knew him, was a highly regarded gastroenterologist at several St. Louis area hospitals, professor emeritus at Washington University St. Louis Medical School, a member of the clinical faculty at Barnes Hospital/Barnes-Jewish Hospital, tennis aficionado, fisherman, avid drummer, Eagle Scout, and photographer.
Dr. Chuck was the physician who knew everyone by name at the hospitals where he practiced. Not just the clinical staff, but the employees that cleaned the hospital, maintained the hospital equipment, and served food. Additionally, he always spent a few minutes getting to know his patients so he could better plan for their care. Dr. Chuck was “old school” in all the positive aspects that implies.
Chuck passed away in his sleep in July 2024 at the age of 90.
As a tribute to him, I have resurrected his lapsed Norland Photographic Art website. The site features all the original photographs with a new and updated design. Hopefully, Chuck would approve.
