janice patteé design, a long-time Cardinal Acres Web Development customer, encountered a situation that occurs from time to time: the theme for her website was no longer developed/supported. When a piece of software ceases active development/support, inevitably at some point it becomes a bottleneck to updating other software components of the website due to incompatibilities. Unsurprisingly, this is exactly what happened with the janice patteé design website.
Typically the only reasonable solution is to reimplement the website with a new theme. WordPress ostensibly separates the “presentation” of site content from the content itself so, in theory, changing themes is a simple process. However, many themes now implement special features tied directly to the theme such that changing themes also typically requires at least some reworking of the website itself. Due to this constraint, it is often an opportunity to do a complete overhaul of the website when a theme change becomes necessary.
For janice patteé design, this was an opportunity to update the featured designs in the online portfolio, to choose a theme that had a more minimal design/layout to lessen any distractions from the featured designs, and to incorporate a new logo design. Due to the simplicity of the website and it’s limited content, this was not an extended process and could be completed in a short amount of time.
